ADHD assessments and ongoing care

A comprehensive, individualized approach to understanding attention, impulsivity, activity levels and daily functioning.

What an assessment includes

An ADHD assessment considers symptoms over time, developmental history, impact in more than one setting, and possible alternative or coexisting explanations such as sleep problems, anxiety, mood conditions or learning difficulties.

Rating scales can support assessment, but do not establish a diagnosis by themselves. Information from parents, teachers or other observers may be requested when appropriate and with consent.

Assessment pathway

  1. Book the appropriate consultation.
  2. Complete relevant intake questionnaires.
  3. Attend a clinical interview and history review.
  4. Provide collateral information or additional assessment if needed.
  5. Discuss findings, treatment options and follow-up.

A diagnosis or prescription is not guaranteed.

Assessment by age group

Children

Developmentally appropriate review of home and school functioning, caregiver concerns, and teacher observations when available. Younger or complex presentations may require in-person assessment or specialist referral.

Teenagers

Review of academic demands, organization, self-regulation, functioning and relevant family or school information, respecting age-appropriate consent and confidentiality.

Adults

Exploration of current symptoms, childhood onset, functioning at work or home, and medical or mental health conditions that may overlap with ADHD.
